I have a painting by artist C. Cooper, not someone who knows this artist?

Ok I bought an oil painting when I was in the Dominican Republic on holiday about 5 years ago, signed C. Cooper. I can not for the life of me figure out who the artist is, even when I google him. The artwork is fantastic! It is a beautiful oil painting on canvas with very bright colors that are almost abstract in a way. Everyone who sees it says it reminds them of a Picasso. This painting was around 100 when I bought it in the Dominican and was very different than the other traditional paintings you see in the Dominican. I would just like to know if anyone has heard of the artist or have any work from this artist and if this kind of art might be worth something.

If you bought a Painting Signed by a person named C. Cooper in the Dominican Republic, chances are you have bought what is known in the industry as a "tourist" paintings. 'Tourist' paintings are done in the artist's painting factories, usually in Eastern Europe or Central America. The artists who whip out of these 'tourists' or 'decorative art' paintings paid by the painting (for very little money by our standards) and they are not allowed to use their real names. Most of them are assigned to Europe or English-sounding names to sign paintings. Do you think the name Cooper sounds like a native Dominican Republic last name? Anyway, because they are not allowed to use their real names, it is very unlikely you will ever find out who actually painted your painting. You can not find out some information online about the artist because he or she does not paint under their real name. This means not that the painting you have purchased is not a great painting, or there is not much art or is not unique in one way or another. Some of the artists who make them tourist paintings are pretty damn good artists. It just means that it will have very little value to a knowledgeable art collector. But what should be important is the value of art to owner and the viewer. As long as you love it then it is invaluable to you.
