Where can I buy Original Art?

I live in Essex and would like to buy original works of art. I dislike modern / abstract and would very much like be the patron of local artists. Any good ideas on where to buy these plants in the surrounding area would be great – I too am not a millionaire, so I'm looking for a reasonable price, say under £ 500th Thank you.
